Six Nations Preview
France v Ireland
France have hit the
panic button, after the humbling defeat to Scotland
last week. Wholesale changes have been made to
their side, with a large number of the old guard
returning. Looking at the backs, Michalak did
not look fit against Scotland, Marty has played
very little recently and Rougerie is simply not
international standard. All in all it’s
a bizarre selection. Nevertheless, Sporting Index
is going for a French win, predicting a 13 to 16
point victory for the home side.
The visitors did not
impress during last weekend’s
victory against Italy, but that performance should
have given them a kick up the backside. Ireland
look to have the edge in terms of the back line.
In particular, D'Arcy and O’Driscoll could
run riot against this makeshift French side. The
key to winning this game lies the forwards, and
both sides look pretty evenly matched. However,
the availability of Leamy is a boost for Ireland.
He could stamp his authority on this game and send
France to another shock defeat.

How Does it Work?
'Supremacy' is a market predicting a team’s dominance over their opposition.
Sporting Index predict the margin (in points) by which a given team will beat
their opponents, and you decide whether their prediction is either too high or
too low.
For the France v Ireland game, Sporting Index is predicting a victory for France
by a margin of 13 to 16 points, so you have a choice to make:
a) Will France win by MORE than
16 points?
or
b) Will France win by LESS than
13 points, or tie, or Ireland will win?
Let’s say that you think France will beat Ireland by more
than 16 points and stake £5 per point on the outcome...
If France beat Ireland 35 - 10, then
France’s margin of victory
or ‘supremacy’ will be 35 minus 10 = 25 points. You were
betting on France to beat Ireland by at least 16 points for £5
per point. So you would have just won (25 – 16) x £5
= 9 x £5 = £45. Not bad!
However it could go the other way. Let’s say France end up
beating Ireland 34 – 24, a winning margin of 10 points. Because
you bet ‘high’ at 16 points, there is a shortfall of
6 points (16 minus 10). At a stake of £5 per point, this would
result in a loss of (16 – 10) x £5 = 6 x £5 = £30.
