Vinnie Roe Nightmare
Vinnie Roe who suffered a night-mare journey
to Australia in his quest for the Melbourne
Cup is a 12-1 chance with VC Bet to go one
better than last year when he finished second
to Mayybe Diva. Trainer’s son Mark Weld
reported “It was a very traumatic journey
and we will have to wait for 72 hours to see
if Vinnie recovers from the colic and treatment
which was subsequently required”.
In contrast Brian Ellison’s Carte Diamond has settled in well since travelling
over to Melbourne and connections heard the news they wanted when Carte Diamond
made the 18-strong field. He will be ridden by the South African jockey Weichong
Marwing in that race and is also a 12-1 chance with VC Bet for Australia’s
biggest race.
VC Bet’s Neal Wilkins commented “This is a real worry for the connections
of Vinnie Roe and quite surprising in some ways as this is the third time that
he has endured the journey. In contrast it would appear that Carte Diamond
has had the perfect preparation and his Ebor form may be given another timely
boost on Saturday when Sergeant Cecil lines up in the Cesarewitch”.
