Texas Holdem
Texas Holdem Rules
This page contains a short explanation of Texas Holdem rules for beginners
A normal hand of texas holdem begins with each player receiving two cards face down. Once the two players to the dealers left have posted ‘blinds’ (compulsorary bets) the game begins with a round of betting. Each player either folds their cards or calls and adds chips to the pot.
Players take it in turn to act, moving round the table one by one. Once everybody has acted, three community cards are dealt face up these are called the ‘Flop’. The flop is followed by a second betting round, where everybody must once again fold or call. After everyone has acted, a fourth community card called the’Turn’ is dealt, followed by another round of betting.
Then if there is still more than one player still in the game, it’s a ‘showdown’. The remaining players all show their cards and whoever has the best poker hand has the pot.
Not all hands will go to a showdown as often one player will bet and all the others will fold. These players will not be willing to match the amount he has put in the pot. If this does happen the final player takes the pot and does not have to show his hand.
FOLD
To surrender your cards and sit out the hand. Fold when your not likely to win, or don’t want to risk more cash.
CALL
Calling is the most popular action. You merely match the previous bet, parting with the minimum amount necessary to stay in the hand.
CHECK
Like calling, but free. You can only check sometimes, for instance when you have already bet and nobody else has raised.
BET
Make a bet. Others have to match what you put in or fold their cards and sit out the hand. Bet when you have a good hand and want to thin out the players.
RAISE
Raising is like betting. You’re said to have raised when you bet after somebody else has already bet during the round.Copyright © Sports Mad Betting 2006. All rights reserved. | PollMatrix Member
