thoughts on this season’s top American Football sides:
Colt Following
In the AFC, two of last years strongest football teams, New England and Indianapolis,
are expected to lead the way. However, there are question marks over
New England; they lost two key players in Teddy Bruschi and Ted Johnson, as well
as one offensive and one defensive co-ordinator to boot. Indianapolis football
team on the other hand look stronger than ever, the signing of defensive tackle
Corey Simon has addressed a previously weak area of their team. Last football
season Pittsburgh had the best record in the AFC, but crashed out to New England
in the Championship game. The pundits don’t rate them to do as well this
season, but Sporting
Index are currently predicting that the Steelers will make a Wild Card spot.
If last year’s rookie quarterback Ben Roethlisberger doesn’t perform
to the same level this football season, however they could struggle to even make
the football play-offs. Of the other teams in the AFC, Kansas, Buffalo and Jacksonville
may be in with an outside play-off chance, having recruited well in the off-season.
The two strongest football sides in last year’s NFC were Philadelphia and
Atlanta. Both squads remain largely unchanged and they’ll be the teams
to beat again. Philadelphia’s off-season has been plagued by controversy,
with a series of bust-ups between quarterback Donovan McNabb and the Eagles Head
football Coach, Andy Reid. Could a lack of football team spirit hamper their
season? Atlanta should certainly be strong, the only question mark being over
QB Michael Vick’s passing ability.
Sporting
Index has seen a lot of interest in Carolina in pre-season, with punters
backing the Panthers by betting ‘high’ on Sporting’s prediction
of a Wild Card spot. Last season they had a lot of injuries and just missed out
on the football play-offs, so with a full squad to choose from they could certainly
be a force. Although Minnesota traded away Randy Moss in the off-season, they’ve
made some shrewd defensive acquisitions and could also be in contention.
Of the rookies on show this season, keep an eye on Tampa Bay’s new running
back Cadillac Williams. He rushed for an impressive 148 yards in Week 1, a record
for a rookie making his debut. Much is also expected from Demarcus Ware of Dallas,
in a pre-season game against Seattle this defensive end sacked a quarterback,
recovered a fumble and intercepted a pass – quite a start!
