Carling Cup Final – Man Utd v Wigan Athletic
This weekend’s football highlight is the Carling Cup final. It’s Manchester United’s only chance of any silverware this term, and it would cap off an incredible season for Wigan – as well as bagging them a place in the UEFA cup next season.
When these teams met at Old Trafford in December, the Reds were comfortable 4-0 winners. Sporting Index have priced them up to win again, but this time by a slimmer margin of 1 to 1.2 goals. Although they haven’t won a match for over a month, Wigan looked good in their last match against Spurs and welcome Roberts back after suspension. O’Shea is likely to return to shore up a relatively lightweight United midfield.
Although it’s set to be a competitive game, ref Alan Wiley is neither tight or profligate with cards. He handed out a yellow to each team when officiating in their last meeting, and Sporting Index anticipate a total of 3 this Sunday. No matter what happens on Sunday, United’s season is pretty much over. They’re practically guaranteed Champions League football next year, and are out of the other cups; when was the last time their season effectively finished in February?

Player Goal Minutes If you are new to spread betting, one of the most popular bets is 'Player Goal Minutes'. It's an opportunity to put the bookies to the sword by backing a player to score.
Unlike a First Goalscorer Bet, a bet on a player's “Goal Minutes” will
keep you on the edge of your seat for the full 90 minutes and it doesn’t
matter who scores first. Before each match, Sporting predict what each
player’s “goal minutes” will add up to. If a player
scores in the 20th and 44th minute, he will have a total of 64 goal
minutes.
For example, in the Carling Cup Final this weekend,
Wayne Rooney has a spread of 20 to 23 minutes. Therefore, you have a choice to
make: Will Rooney’s
Goal Minutes add up to MORE than 23,
Or
Will Rooney’s Goal Minutes add up to LESS than 20?
Let’s say that you think Rooney will score in the match, and stake £1 per minute on the outcome. If he repeats what happened last time he played Wigan, and scores in the 35th and 55th minutes, he would have a total of 90 goal minutes. By betting high at 23 minutes, you would win (90 – 23) x £1 = 67 x £1 = £67. Not bad!
However, he could have a quiet night and fail to find the back of the net. In this case, his goal minutes would be zero. You would therefore lose (0 – 23) x £1 = -23 x £1 = £23 loss.
